Garden pond — from decorative to bathing

A dozen years ago, a garden pond was an imitation of a natural reservoir.
Today, this concept has become so broad that it is difficult to imagine anything concrete.
A pond can be called a certain container with water of indefinite size, incomprehensible shape and unpredictable filling.
Exactly. After all, today the pond in the garden may look like this:
- a traditional reservoir with vegetation, without it, with fish or simply filled with stones — a decorative reservoir;
- a combination of a swimming pool and a pond with landscaping — a swimming pond;
- a bowl of concrete, iron, glass filled to the brim with water — a mirror pond.
The first two options are quite possible to do yourself. But first of all, you need to decide on the size and location.
small pond will not be able to create within itself a closed biosystem capable of self-purification. But it is easy for him to find a place in any corner of the garden with illumination of no more than 5-6 hours of direct sunlight.
A pond with a depth of more than 1.2 m is suitable for keeping fish in it. But if its surface area is less than 45 m2then without a filter that purifies water, it cannot exist by itself.
bathing pond (do not confuse with the pool) covers an area of 45 m2 and more. It should be located in partial shade and is capable of self-cleaning. It would be nice to provide it with a filter in order to mechanically purify the water if necessary.
mirror pond can have any area and be located anywhere. But without constant filtration and water supply, it will “turn green” and dry out.
DECORATIVE POND
Previously, the bowl of the garden pond was made of stone, brick, concrete. The structure turned out to be stationary and quite massive. In order to change the location of such a reservoir, it is necessary to destroy the previously created one.
A modern approach to landscaping allows for adjustments and makes the pond more mobile. All thanks to a flexible membrane made of butyl rubber or small plastic bowls that can be carried and installed in any available places.
The edges of such an artificial reservoir are decorated with stones and vegetation. It is advisable to get rid of foliage that has fallen into the water in a timely manner, otherwise it will become contaminated. For the winter, water is removed from a small pond, and the bowl is covered with boards and a protective film.
BATHING POND
The first bathing ponds appeared more than three decades ago. Then the first ecological tendencies were born in the countries of Europe. Today, the experience gained allows you to create garden ponds that are as close to natural as possible. They also lack chemical additives, but there is always a natural filtration zone in the form of shallow vegetation.
Swimming in such a pond is pleasant, because the bottom is safe, the water is clean, clear and warmer than in flowing reservoirs. It is a self-cleaning biosystem. It cannot be argued that in such a reservoir one can completely do without a water purification filter, but it is turned on much less frequently.
In order to start the biosystem, you will need to prepare a place, not bad if it is an old pool. If there is none, then you need to lay out the walls of stone blocks yourself.
The total area of the swimming pond is 45-55 m2. At least half falls on the filtration zone with a depth of 35-55 cm. The bathing zone has a depth of 1.6-1.8 m.
The natural filtration zone can not be combined with the bathing one. Then a pond with vegetation is created nearby. Water from the bath is pumped into it, and after cleaning, it, passed through a UV filter, gets back.
MIRROR POND
A pond with a mirror surface of water can be made in any hard bowl. And in order to create a «mirror» you need:
- install the bowl absolutely horizontally;
- install a bowl for water collection and filtration under the pond, a filter will be placed in it;
- water from the filter is fed into the pond overflows through the sides, enters the catchment area and is filtered there.
As a result of pouring water over the edges, fallen leaves do not stay on the surface and it always looks perfectly clean.
