Garden without the cost of native plants

A shrub that grows incredibly fast. Therefore, an excellent option for the development of the site.

Beautiful in spring during flowering and in autumn at the time of ripening berries.

It is easy to form, for autumn all new branches are cut by a third so that they do not freeze.

Transplantation is carried out in April and September. Young shoots abound in abandoned gardens and just around.

People call it jasmine, but this is a delusion. It blooms profusely with large flowers exuding a strong intoxicating aroma.

This shrub can not be called fast-growing. It sends out shoots that stretch into long branches, like a fountain. Each new branch grows from the root, gradually expanding the base of the bush.

It blooms beautifully, grows quickly, the berries are decorative and healing …

What else is needed for a young garden and a novice gardener?

Gives root growth, which is used for transplantation. You can find it with neighbors, in plantings and forests.

It is better to initially form the skeleton on the basis of one or three trunks, so that subsequently the bush does not look like an ugly thicket.

!!! Trees and shrubs, which in their natural environment form continuous thickets, can give you a lot of trouble. If you are not ready to engage in their formation in the first five years, then it is better to refuse them.

!!! In nature, there are many beautiful, but poisonous specimens. Keep this in mind if you have small children.

It is important to choose the right time for the transplant. Most seedlings «love» autumn (September). This is in the hands of the gardener. Wet, but still warm period of the year eliminates the need for regular watering.

Do not take risks — take planting material only with an earthy clod, wrapping it in paper, cloth or polyethylene.

In the open field of a new site, it is very difficult to grow trees and shrubs that love moisture. Choose (or dig) hollows for them, and even better, wait with planting out until a real shady garden appears on the site that retains moisture in the soil.

Economy — does not mean ugly. A living fence is the most “heaviest” element of the garden in terms of finances. There are three to nine seedlings per linear meter. But you can get free planting material.

Elder and lilac give abundant shoots and a lot of seedlings from one bush. They are dug up and planted in one row with a step of 75 cm.

Lilac the first few years they are grown as a tree, after which they cut the top and form a lush crown. The hedge is free-growing and blooming. Rapid growth of lilacs can only be expected with regular watering, organic fertilizer (chicken manure) and the absence of weeds in the trunk circle.

Elderberry in a hedge, grown as a bush with several trunks, pruned two or three times a year, achieving the correct shape and thickening of the bush.

Rooted willow cuttings are planted at an angle so that they form a diamond-shaped lattice.

At the intersection, the bark is cut off and tied with hemp.

In a year or two, the seedlings will grow together and the gardener will only have to control the height and thickness of the living fence by trimming.

If there are impenetrable thickets of young buckthorn in the nearest undergrowth, then you are incredibly lucky. It makes an elegant hedge.

Planting step 30 cm, in one or two rows.

After rooting, seedlings are cut into a stump and then grown as a formed hedge.

Garden thickets can be divided into two types.

Left half of the photo: meadow flowers and grasses (if the abandoned area has been mowed for the past few years). There is no weed grass, and if it is sown, it will live until the first mowing.

Right half: weed jungle (if the site was plowed up and then just abandoned). Only the worst enemies of the gardener survive here 🙂

The second option is more difficult to correct than the first. Get rid of weeds can be done mechanically or chemically. But in the garden it is better to use a «biological weapon» — displacement by other species.

The first year the site is simply mowed: in May, late June (flowering period) and in August. The root system of perennials will weaken, and in annuals, the seeds simply do not have time to ripen.

The next spring (in mid-April), more cultivated grasses are sown on top of the turf on the area cleared by rakes, for example, timothy meadow, meadow bluegrass or meadow fescue.

If even the most neglected area is cut as often as a lawn, then in 3-5 years the weeds will be replaced by the three grasses listed above (they grow everywhere). As a result, you will get a natural lawn and weeds will no longer bother you. Video of the development of my site by the substitution method:

If you got a ready-made flowering meadow, then it is enough to mow it in May and August to preserve the flowers. Or move the second mowing to the end of June — as a result, you will get a field of cereals.

Garden cover does not have to be solid and solid. The garden is not a yard — people walk here in comfortable shoes without heels, therefore such coverings as grass and wooden cuts will be appropriate.

GRASS PATHWAYS are not paths trodden in the grass at all. These are grass ribbons raised above the surface of the area. It is easy to make them: on a sloping field, a path is marked with the tip of a shovel. From the outer sides of it, the turf layer of the site is removed to a width equal to half the width of the track. The turf is slightly shaken off and laid on the markings of the track.

This will give you a raised ribbon of grass flanked by shallow trenches on the sides. They will tighten with turf over time. The path should be mowed periodically.

I recommend doing the work during the rainy season, soft earth will facilitate the work, and the root system will better recover in a new place.

The irregularities of the new coating are easy to level by sprinkling cracks and depressions with sand or a soil-sand mixture. For a year from «patches» there will be no trace.

BEAM TRACKS are even easier to make. Just lay it along a given path, and fill the gaps with gravel, sand or its mixture with soil. The difference in height in this case is simply necessary — it will help you not to “lose” the wooden covering among the overgrown grass.

Saw cuts in a temperate climate have proven themselves poorly: slippery after rain and without high-quality processing, they quickly rot. They can be replaced with imitation, from concrete, colored in mass (when the dye is added to the solution during mixing).

When weed control is completed, you can begin to form flower beds. They are arranged in the form of flower beds or mixborders. Many articles have been written about this and it is a pity to waste your time repeating it.

In my opinion, islands of ornamental grasses and high perennial flowers will look much more harmonious in a natural garden. They do it this way: in the allotted place (choose intuitively), they remove the turf layer in a circle and immediately limit it to a low rim. The place is sprinkled with earth and humus, sown with seeds of the most unpretentious perennials (or seedlings are planted).

Until the plants bloom, they are given close attention in the form of weeding and watering.

During mowing, these areas are naturally left untouched.

The most unpretentious and suitable for these purposes (from my own experience): sage, rudbeckia and «sisters»mallow, tansy, eryngium, yarrow, day-lily, lupine, calendula, high varieties of marigolds. Be sure to plant bulbs in each circle. primroses (daffodils, snowdrops, muscari, tulips). Already in spring, the garden will thank you with early flowering.

If the seeds of flowering perennials are simply scattered in April over the turf, sprinkled with a thin layer of soil, then by July they will create a continuous carpet of a small size. The main thing is not to let the site dry out in the spring. Some seeds are best sown in September (see what is written on the package).

In the year of planting flowers, early mowing should be abandoned, and summer mowing should be done when self-sowing occurs, or these areas should be left untouched.

A few words about fern. This colorful herb grows in abundance in our forests. But do not rush to transplant it to your site until there are shady and humid places there — the plants will simply die.

At an early stage in the development of the garden, the fern will do well in the shade of the fence on the north side. The best time to transplant is spring and autumn.

How to transform a running site

Majority ornamental gardens captivate with their spontaneity, «unkemptness» and primitiveness. For someone, the artistic mess in the garden was born by itself and acquired a finished look thanks to the intuition of the creator.

Fast growing trees and shrubs

The issue of planting fast-growing trees and shrubs is relevant not only for summer cottages, but also for any site. As a rule, the land allotment is issued to the future owner in a completely «naked» form.

Lazy garden: stages of creation

I recently read an article about another study by restless scientists. The subject of attention was the relationship between human intelligence and … laziness. So it turned out thatIt is laziness that makes a person think in the direction of facilitating this or that labor process. Like this!

A narrow section is not a cause for disappointment — it is just a creative challenge to the architect and a worthy payment for his work. And there is something to break your head over. We will not call houses with a facade of 6 m or more narrow. The article will focus on buildings whose dimensions should “squeeze” into a narrow strip of the site …
