Matricaria — the phenomenon of simplicity

[ad_1]

One chamomile, two chamomile, three …
Matricaria is the same chamomile on which only the lazy did not guess in childhood.

But novice summer residents call chamomile flowers, which in fact are not.
So I, until I bought a suburban area, called some types of chrysanthemums with daisies, autumn asters, echinacea, gerbera and osteospermum.

And there are also types of flowers that even experienced gardeners call daisies. And here it’s not a matter of delusions — it’s easier to name the plants participating in flower beds in one word.
Real chamomile is Matricaria (Matricaria), there are more than 20 species of itWithmost popular: chamomile and fragrant.

Matricaria officinalis, chamomile, peeled (Matricaria chamomilla or Chamomilla recutita) — low flower with yellow-green convex middle and drooping white petals.

An antipyretic, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent, which will always be at hand, you just have to tame this shy woman by settling in one of the beds.

It makes no sense to use chamomile as an ornamental plant, because it is an annual plant with a fairly short flowering period.

NUANCE: take a closer look at the foliage of chamomile, by it you can distinguish it from other namesakes.
Matricaria odorouschamomile green, tongueless (Matricaria discoidea) — a completely inconspicuous low (up to 20 cm) plant, the green center is practically devoid of framing, but how it smells! This is a valuable raw material for lovers of herbal tea, besides it has medicinal properties.
As a child, my mother and I harvested this chamomile in order to treat seasonal inflammatory processes in the body with a fragrant drink in winter.
The odorous chamomile is an annual, actively propagating by self-sowing. Sowing it in the garden once, every year you will find an inconspicuous plant among the low garden grass. She loves open sunny places and does not like competitors. In nature, it is found along paths and paths, where grass is usually trampled down.
«Without blinking an eye» gardeners also call daisy and tansy maiden. These are perennials that delight us in flower beds and cut bouquets.
Nivyanik, popovnik, perennial «chamomile» (Leucánthemum) is a garden perennial with a large basket inflorescence, white petals and a yellow center. In some varieties, the diameter of the flower reaches 12 cm.
The stalk of the cornflower is single, does not branch, the leaves are lobed with notches, height is from 30 to 130 cm.
The flower is often grown for cutting, but it is also unusually good in garden flower beds.
Direct sowing of seeds of varietal plants in the ground often does not give the desired germination. Therefore, leucanthemum is recommended to be grown through seedlings. Sowing time in boxes — March. Transplant to open ground in May.

Once every 3-4 years, in the spring, the popovnik bush can be divided. If you prefer propagation by cuttings, then green cuttings are harvested throughout the summer.

The flowering period of leucanthemum is June-July (up to 45 days), but by trimming the faded part and top dressing, you can cause re-blooming (less plentiful) at the end of summer. Frost resistance zone 3-4.
There are about 20 types of leucanthemum. Popular varieties are:

tansy maiden, feverfew maiden (Tanacétum parthénium) is a perennial garden «chamomile» grown as an annual in cold regions. The frost resistance zone of this species is 4-9.

The species plant easily tolerates snowy winters, the bush grows rapidly, therefore it is advisable to divide it every two years, otherwise it will lose its decorative effect.

As a letnik, girlish tansy is grown only through seedlings. Seeds are sown in March, planted in open ground in May.

The stem of the maiden chrysanthemum (another name for the flower) branches strongly at the top.

The flowers are small: only 1.5-3 cm, but on one adult plant there are so many of them that one cannot distinguish foliage behind the flowers. The leaves are very similar to the leaves of chrysanthemums, which gave the corresponding name.
Due to this quality and low height, the girlish «chamomile» is often used to frame flower beds, paths, as a border plant.

The girlish feverfew blooms for a long time: from June to autumn, after which it immediately loses its decorative effect. But even in the previous months, increasing the green mass, the plant will definitely not spoil the flower garden.

Do not think that girlish tansy always looks so simple. Breeders have worked hard so that the naive simpleton one day turns into a luxurious princess.

DAISY IN GARDEN DESIGN

I do not know a place in the garden where white chamomile flowers would be out of place. Undersized look great on an alpine hill. All daisies perfectly cope with the role of living borders. Chamomile is a constant participant in «meadow» flower beds and a luxurious parterre in «bouquet» ones.

COMBINATION IN SHAPE AND COLOR

The simple beauty of chamomile captivates with its naivety.

Against its background, other flowers look even more attractive, and the plant itself only benefits from such a neighborhood.

White daisies in a «cool» blue flower garden add a feeling of lightness and freshness.
