Monarda — wild bergamot

[ad_1]

You confess to me
Sounds in you ti chari,
I am without you all the days
At the full of sadness.
Maybe here at the foxes
You char-zilla shukala,
The sun knew the root
Did you enchant me?
Red Rue
Do not joke in the evenings ...
And here she is, the same red rue, but in a scientific monard. For a specific aroma, similar to a well-known spice, this plant is called herbaceous or wild «bergamot».

A rather modest-looking flowering perennial with disheveled flowers vaguely resembling either an aster or a chamomile.
The discreet charm of the monarda was appreciated by gardeners, and the peculiarities of some species were to the liking of culinary specialists.
In addition, this perennial is a valuable medicinal plant and honey plant with unique nectar.

In general terms, the monarda is a rather unpretentious plant that winters at temperatures down to -25 ° C. However, it prefers calcareous soils and does not grow well in acidic soils. Therefore, a place for it has been prepared since autumn, adding peat, ash, and sand to the soil.

Monarda looks great both in single landings in curtains and in mixborders. And although the flowers themselves are not so lush and large, but, coupled with a densely leafy stem, the blooming curtain more resembles a green cloud with stars.

Evening matron, zinnia, gaillardia, yarrow, echinacea, hosts, rudbeckia, stonecrop, veronica, spikelet liatris — this is not a complete list of successful partners for the monarda.
When planting these plants nearby, it is worth considering their height so as not to overlap low curtains with higher ones.
Monarda is also good in mixed landings, as if in a flowering meadow.
True, such a flower garden will eventually turn into a mix of paintings and will require reconstruction: some form a mixborder, others divide and plant individuals randomly and one by one.

REPRODUCTION AND TRANSPLANT
Monarda is propagated by seeds in open ground in those regions where snow melts already in February. In the loosened soil in the last month of winter, the seeds are buried no more than 2 cm. After two months of stratification, April will please you with entrances at the sowing site. They should be thinned out. An autumn planting of seeds is possible, then in the spring you will only have to pick out the sprouts.
Propagation by seedlings is more suitable for cold regions. Seeds are sown in boxes at the beginning of the year and placed under a film in a room with room temperature. Shoots will appear in 18-20 days, and after another three weeks they should be picked.
When propagating varietal monarda, growing from seeds does not retain varietal characteristics, therefore it is better to use the method of dividing the rhizome.

In addition, you yourself are free to determine the time of work of your …

How to transform a running site
Majority ornamental gardens captivate with their spontaneity, «unkemptness» and primitiveness. For someone, the artistic mess in the garden was born by itself and acquired a finished look thanks to the intuition of the creator.
