Raised beds and flower beds

[ad_1]

This is an axiom, another question is, where among the already planned territory to find a place for garden beds? The solution suggests itself — in flower beds, lawns and in the garden.
A decorative garden is not only a fashion trend in landscape design. Any gardener knows that the greenery of many vegetable and salad crops is in no way inferior to flowers in beauty. Go to any seed store and take a look at the colorful packaging — what a vitamin flower bed idea!
First you need to decide on the location of the breakdown of the miracle garden, the area and the design method.

Future Square decorative gardens do not have to be solid — you can scatter flower beds decorated in the same style around the yard and garden or use the area along garden paths.
Do not ignore pergolas and hedges — they can serve as natural supports for climbing garden crops — beans, peas, standard varieties of tomatoes and cucumbers. To maintain a decorative green background, plant perennial crops on the beds from spring.

The design method and the shape of the beds is up to you, but it must visually correspond to the overall design of the house and yard.
Deciding with the shape and size, it should still be taken into account that the best option would be rectangular and rounded high beds, since at sharp corners the soil will dry out much faster, and, as a result, the plants will slow down in development, creating heterogeneity of vegetation.

For convenience, planting sizes up to 140 cm wide are the most optimal — processing such a garden will not be a tedious undertaking. It is enough to leave working passages between low beds 40 cm each and line them with decorative gravel, painted wood chips, stone, and tiles. If you have made high beds, then the width of the passages should be automatically increased to 60-70 cm.
Other options for the shape and location of the decorative garden can be viewed in the photo illustrations posted at the end of the article.
The garden bed with a frame looks elegant hedge from boxwood or thuja. If you already have such mini-fences, feel free to plant greens with bright colors and large leaves behind them.
To make the garden even more decorative, small flower beds can be planted with one crop, and large ones in rows, alternating crops in color and increasing height from edge to center.

A win-win, albeit quite expensive option is to raise the beds to a height with the help of retaining walls of stone. But the walls of the flower beds themselves already have a high decorative effect and their thickness, which maintains the moisture-thermal balance of the soil in the garden, is a huge plus.
In addition, it is easy to take care of such a mini-garden — you don’t have to bend low, the earth is inside the flower bed, a green lawn can be sown around, pebbles or rubble can be sprinkled around, or a coating is simply laid. When planting a lawn, a geogrid is laid around the beds or flat stones are laid — so the grass will be protected from trampling when processing plants.

Using freshly cut branches of the vine, you can build a wicker fence. Smooth and flexible willow branches with a thickness of one0-fifteen mm, thickness of supporting stakes — 25 mm. Obe sure to remove the bark — so the wood will last longer and the bark beetle will not start in it.
It looks simple, but in fact, such a decorative hedge requires weaving skills. Sharpen the supports and drive them into the ground in pairs to a depth of about 35 cm at intervals of 15-20 cm. Weaving starts from the bottom, while using a pruner to trim branches. For flexibility, soak wicker in water for a day.

The most versatile design option for an ornamental garden is high sandboxes with horizontal sides inside the garden. If childhood memories are clouded, you have a series of photos in front of you.

Of course, it makes sense to process walls with an antiseptic and lay a waterproofing layer along the inner edge. From the inside, the sandbox is fixed with driven pegs to prevent displacement. With a little work, you will get an exceptional decorative and practical thing — the ingress of soil on the tracks is minimized.
The inner space of the beds can be divided into square sectors — this will make it possible to plant different crops in one sandbox without harming the microflora of the soil and fears that some plants will suppress the root system of others.
Vitamin beds can also be fenced outside with the help of boards or plastic boards.andlawn mats, which are sold in any construction hypermarket in the garden-garden section.

You can also use garden plants for planting. thermal bowls for vertical gardening — they retain moisture for a long time due to double walls, where it accumulates during rain.
This design additionally prevents overheating of the soil inside the tank. You can hang a thermal bowl both on a pole and on a fence.

Vases large sizes will also fit for gardening purposes, but keep in mind that they will be located in partial shade so that the earth does not overheat due to thin walls. This means that shade-tolerant crops will grow in them.
IT’S IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Dry summer, elevation, July heat will require gardeners to organize regular watering, preferably drip.
But perhaps the best option would be to create high beds only for early crops, for which the winter supply of moisture in the ground is enough to ripen.
And for later vegetables and berries, it is better to equip the beds, on the contrary, buried in the ground and generously cover them with mulch. However, the best adviser is personal experience based on experiments.
Naturally, the basis of lush growth and high yields is the composition of the soil mixture of your ornamental garden. At the former construction site, it makes no sense to talk about soil as fertile soil — the best option is to bring it from outside. But be sure to take an interest in the biochemical composition of the brought land. The key to the fertility of your beds will be an earthen mixture, selected in the following proportions:
- chernozem — 25%,
- peat — 15%,
- sand — 30%,
- compost — 30%.

But the fertile layer is only the top of the layer cake of the raised bed. To get an early harvest of vegetables and berries, the beds are also insulated from below. The effect of debate, which occurs during the decomposition of organic matter, works for this task.
What it looks like: a fine-mesh net is laid at the bottom of the sandbox — it will protect against small rodents. The bottom layer consists of thin branches left after pruning the garden. The layer above is sod taken from the area under the bed. It is turned upside down. Next comes a layer of summer-cut grass, last year’s leaves, in general, everything that can become humus by spring. And only a layer of fertile soil is poured on top of it.

Periodic overseeding of vitamin greens will help to preserve their decorative effect: curly parsley, salads with lush bright leaves, chard, lemon balm, chives. Of these crops, it is recommended to make borders along the contours of the beds and update as they mature.
The basis of any bed can be «long-playing» varieties of Savoy cabbage, whose decorative effect is unlikely to cause anyone doubt.
A bed with onions can be framed with matiola bushes, which will hide wilted arrows and fill the yard with a delicate aroma.
It is better for standard varieties of cucumbers and tomatoes to find a place along the fences, and at the foot at some distance arrange a border of flowers, which will create shading of the soil and prevent it from overheating.

DECORATIVE GARDEN, PHOTO

Dry laid stone walls will not retain excess moisture even if installed on a paved or concreted surface.

Gabions are an excellent solution for high ridges: decorative and breathable sides will create a comfortable microclimate inside the structure.

If you do not engage in gardening for sale, then a dozen ridges of a small area are quite enough for the needs of one family. By the way, potatoes are also grown using the high ridge method and yields are larger than with the traditional method.

Crops that give edible greens are characterized by rapid growth, which means that during the season on the same bed you can grow different types in turn.

For gourds, old tires of large diameter are suitable as high ridges. Do not forget to pour a layer of small branches and mowed grass on the bottom of such a ridge in the fall. Then in the spring, due to the debate process, you will get early shoots of pumpkins, watermelons and melons. And long lashes will not take up much space.

It is very convenient to mow the aisles of high ridges, you will not need to plow the entire garden every year, the beds themselves will be clean and will not require frequent weeding.

Strawberries grown in high beds give an earlier harvest. If the soil is mulched or covered with a spa-bond, then it will retain moisture longer, and layering will be easier to remove.

Fast growing trees and shrubs
The issue of planting fast-growing trees and shrubs is relevant not only for summer cottages, but also for any site. As a rule, the land allotment is issued to the future owner in a completely «naked» form.

But after all, not everyone is intended for permanent residence … The term “garden house” is more suitable for many of them, they are so miniature. However, whatever the parameters of this building, if …
